Fashions and Getting Older

As we get older, we need to pay a little more attention to how we dress. Fashion takes on a functional aspect as the needs of our bodies start to change. We can try to ignore them and keep dressing like we are in our 20’s but, eventually, that will all catch up to you. Here are some ways that you can dress to look contemporary, but still accommodate your aging body.

1) Footwear

Our feet begin to take on an added significance when we start to get into our 30’s and beyond. Start looking for comfortable footwear with a strong arch but a soft insole. Invest in the foot supports that can be placed into your shoes to help relieve back pain and make your feet more comfortable. When we age, our body starts to become more sensitive to the condition of our feet. If you have to stand for your job all day, then get boots with supports in the ankles and get new insoles every month.

2) Waist Line

Some people are able to maintain their waistlines well into their later years. But if you are losing the battle of the belt as you get older, do not let pride cause you to make bad decisions. Pants that are too tight in the waist can constrict your breathing and create problems with your lower back. Form-fitting jeans can help reduce the appearance of your waist, but if your pants are too tight then you need to move up a size.

3) Socks

This may sound a bit crazy, but plush socks can make a serious difference in the comfort of your feet when you get older. The soft socks help cushion the constant blow to your knees and back as you walk and run. This is especially helpful when you are playing with your kids at home. You never give your feet a second thought when you are chasing your kids around the house, but when you put on the soft socks you will notice a difference.

We all get older even though we would prefer not to. In order to avoid possible long-term injuries and to make life more comfortable for yourself, learn to alter your fashion preferences as you age.
